Mainstream Hip Hop Media continues to promote Age war in Rap

Hip Hop DX is one of the biggest Mainstream Hip Hop media outlets in the world and it is backed by Complex which is a huge corporate media entity. When DX writer Mike Steyels reviewed our project F–K Tha Lamestream he went straight for the Age gap that is being promoted by the Lamestream Hip Hop media. He said that “Scott Bejda and Netherlands producer Detag have put together a compilation that refuses to acknowledge anything made after the 90s as authentic” which is completely false and shows you right there how older artists are looked upon by much of Hip Hop media. I myself am a music journalist and I love showcasing young talent. There is nothing more refreshing than to hear a young artist who embodies lyrical ability as well as dope subject matter within his or her rhymes. Seed of 6ix is a great example of young talent and we at the Murder Master Music Show are proud that we were one of the first outlets to interview them years ago. Right at the beginning of the albums intro I state “this is not an attack on the youth” , if you paid attention it is actually to combat what the media outlets are doing to the youth. We are going at the trash that they continue to try to pass off as Hip Hop when more lyrical artists are slept on. He also wanted to make it more political not even realizing I put out a project years ago called F–K Tha Illuminati that went at big corporate political powers.

Another example of the age gap that DX promotes is in the title of the review “Bad Bone Thugs Impressions”, first off I think it is safe to say that we all love Bone, but no one on the album sounded anything like Bone. Mike made this assumption simply because some of the artists like Scratch LDP, Skinnymaine, Chico Slim and others rapped fast at times. Then he goes onto make fun of some of the lyrics on the project which is another way of attacking those who actually use lyrics. If everyone mumbled or talked about money and swag then maybe he would have been able to relate better. All of the artists on F–K Tha Lamestream brought their A-Game. No mumble rap, no one was talkin’ about poppin molly and gettin turnt up!

Then Mike wanted to try to speak on Murder Dog by citing an article where Black Dog said he never tried to compete with other media outlets and never went against commercial success. Who ever said anything about commercial success? Some of my all time favorite artists went Multi-Platinum, including Bone. Also in that same article that Mike referred to, Black Dog himself said I was one of the few people he would trust with his life. Me and him butted heads all the time, but the reason I stayed with the publication for 15 years is because we weren’t the same, we had different opinions and he liked the fact that I stood for what I believed in. And why would I try to compete with multi-million dollar entities when I run a small podcast? My whole objective is to promote the artists that many of you bigger outlets wont show the time of day to.

The reviewer pretty much talked about the first 5-6 tracks, but failed to realize how many Hip Hop styles were on the project. He didn’t mention anything about the fact that several countries were on it, artists from the East Coast, Mid-West, West Coast, South, and all over the globe were represented making this easily the biggest project this year that showcased GLOBAL UNITY. This was clearly a hit piece and we are cool with that because any press is good press. Even one of their main editors told me that it sounded like something he had heard in school as a kid proving even more that they are looking for a particular sound. What about when they do a feature on legends and pioneers, is it fake love they are showing? All I know is when I look back on my career as a music journalist I can hold my head up knowing that I showcased 100s of artists that normally wouldn’t get a chance to shine on any of these lamestream outlets. I am proud of this project, Detag did amazing production and all the artists spit dope verses. And for the record we featured artists that ranged in age from their 20s all the way up to their 50s, so you can never say this wasn’t trying to bring generations together. The reviewer got mad because we went at Hip Hop Media! In closing I want to thank DX for the review as it can now go along with the 100 or so articles of news stories that they published from press releases sent out by the Murder Master Music Show, we must be doing something right! #UGS4LIFE #FXCKTHALAMESTREAM – Prezident Bejda
